Long before I had my first child, I never thought I would be part of a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am finally a new mother, being able to talk to other parents about what is happening in my life has really helped me. We discuss how we bring up our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we enjoy being able to discuss the latest baby outfits we have bought.
I more often than not go out with 3 other parents, once a week, to find out the latest new. We generally meet at Pioneer Mill of Tiffin (which is in TIFFIN, OH) as that is quite central for all of us. Last week was particularly interesting as we discussed baby clothes. I have been giving my baby boy organic meals from day one but I had never thought about buying organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most broadly grown plants in America and one of the most devastating to the habitat and to farm employees. The run off from cotton farms has damaged habitats and particularly water supplies. Organic products are grown without using artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Instead, organic farming depends upon things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.

Benefits of Organic Clothing
Buying organic clothes means you are purchasing products which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less damage to soils and waterways. No or reduced use of herbicides and fertilisers means less pollution of our farms and lakes, reduced cancers for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by reducing their contact with toxic chemicals.
Several makers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothes or you can find designers solely committed to organic baby fashion. Thankfully, there are a lot of brands to choose from and all ages are provided for, from infants to adolescents. Of course, organic fashion for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.
I am not saying that I am only going to get organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is a good alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am without a doubt going try to whenever I can.
