Before I had my first child, I never really imagined I would join a mothers group. However, now that I am a mum, chatting to other mothers about what is going on in my life has really helped me. We discuss how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we enjoy being able to discuss the latest baby outfits we have bought.

I usually get together with 3 other mothers, once a fortnight, to hear about the latest happenings. We generally meet at Peking Buffet (which is in STONE MOUNTAIN, GA) as that is pretty central for all of us. Last month was more interesting as we chatted about baby clothes. I have been giving my baby organic produce from the start but I had not considered getting organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown plants in the US and one of the most harmful to the environment and to farmers. The run off from cotton farms has damaged habitats and especially water supplies. Organic cotton is made without using artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Instead, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic pest control techniques.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Buying organic clothes means you are buying produce which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less damage to the environment. No or a reduction in the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our farms and waterways, less cancers for farmers, and fewer health risks for children by lessening their contact with toxic chemicals.

A number of producers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic items or you can find retailers solely dedicated to organic baby fashion. Thankfully, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from toddlers to older children. Naturally, organic fashion for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I am not saying that I am only ever going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is a fantastic alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am most definitely going try to whenever I can.
