Long before I had my baby, I never really imagined I would belong to a mothers group. However, now that I am finally a mum, talking to other mothers about what is going on in my life has been a huge help. We talk about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we love to discuss the newest baby outfits we have bought.

I usually get together with 2 other parents, once a week, to catch up on the latest new. We usually meet at Helens Fast Food Restaurant (which is in STATESBORO, GA) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last week was particularly eye opening seeing we discussed baby clothes. I have been providing my baby boy organic meals from day one but I had never thought about buying organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most broadly grown products in America and one of the most harmful to the habitat and to farm workers. The run off from these farms has ruined the environment and in particular water bodies. Organic cotton is made without the need for artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Instead, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.

Benefits of Organic Clothing

Buying organic clothes means you are getting produce which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less pollution of our habitat. No or a reduction in the use of insecticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our farms and lakes, fewer cancers for farmers, and fewer health risks for children by lessening their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.

Quite a few makers of baby clothes also make a range of organic items or you can find shops completely dedicated to organic baby fashion. Either way, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are provided for, from infants to older children. Of course, organic clothes for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my man.

I am not saying that I am only ever going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am most definitely going try to whenever I can.
