Organic Baby Clothing ROCKVILLE
Filed Under (Organic Baby Clothes) by Kaye on 04-05-2008
Long before I had my baby, I had not thought I would belong to a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am finally a new mother, chatting to other mothers about what is going on in my life has benefited me immensely. We discuss how we bring up our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we love to discuss the latest baby outfits we have bought.
I more often than not get together with 4 other parents, once a month, to find out the latest gossip. We usually meet at Pinto & Mazzilli (which is in ROCKVILLE, MD) as that is quite central for all of us. Last week was really eye opening as we chatted about organic baby clothes. I have been providing my baby girl organic produce from day one but I had not considered getting organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most popular crops in America and one of the most devastating to the habitat and to farm employees. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has damaged the environment and in particular water ways. Organic products are grown without the need for artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Alternatively, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic insect control methods.
Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing
Purchasing organic clothes means you are purchasing clothes which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less damage to soils and waterways. No or less use of insecticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and lakes, less cancers for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by moderating their contact with dangerous chemicals.
Many retailers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic clothes or you can find stores entirely devoted to organic baby clothing. Thankfully, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from infants to older children. Of course, organic clothing for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.
I am not saying that I am just going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is a great alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am without a doubt going try to whenever I can.
