Before I had my children, I never really thought I would belong to a mothers group. However, now that I have become a mum, talking to other women about what is going on in my life has been a huge help. We discuss how we bring up our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we enjoy being able to discuss the latest baby fashions we have picked up.

I generally go out with 2 other women, once a month, to hear about the latest happenings. We usually meet at Beelendorf Deli & Catering (which is in ROCK FALLS, IL) as that is pretty central for all of us. Last month was particularly interesting because we chatted about organic baby clothing. I have been feeding my baby boy organic meals from the start but it had never crossed my mind to purchasing organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown products in America and one of the most ruinous to the ecosystem and to farm employees. The run off from these farms has ruined habitats and especially water bodies. Organic products are made without the need for artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Instead, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.

Benefits of Organic Clothing

Getting organic produce means you are getting clothes which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less contamination of soils and waterways. No or a reduction in the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our farms and lakes, less diseases for farm employees, and fewer health risks for children by reducing their contact with dangerous chemicals.

Quite a few wholesalers of baby clothes also make a range of organic clothes or you can find wholesalers entirely committed to organic baby clothing. Thankfully, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are catered for, from infants to teenagers. Of course, organic fashion for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.

I am not saying that I am just going to buy organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is a fantastic alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am absolutely going try to whenever it is available.
