Back before I had my baby, I had not imagined I would belong to a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am a mother, being able to talk to other women about what is going on in my life has been a huge help. We chat about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we like to discuss the most recent baby clothes we have purchased.
I generally meet with 3 other parents, once a fortnight, to hear about the latest gossip. We often meet at Genuardi's Family Markets (which is in POTTSTOWN, PA) as that is pretty central for all of us. Last month was really interesting as we chatted about organic baby clothes. I have been providing my baby organic food from the beginning but I had never thought about getting organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most widely grown plants in America and one of the most devastating to the environment and to farm workers. The run off from cotton farms has destroyed habitats and in particular water ways. Organic produce is produced without the need for artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Instead, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing
Buying organic produce means you are getting produce which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less pollution of the environment. No or a reduction in the use of pesticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our land and rivers, fewer health problems for farmers, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by moderating their contact with dangerous chemicals.
Quite a few makers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothes or you can find shops solely devoted to organic baby fashion. Thankfully, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are provided for, from babies to teenagers. Obviously, organic clothes for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my man.
I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is an amazing alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am absolutely going try to whenever I can.
