Back before I had my first child, I never thought I would join a mothers group. However, now that I am finally a mother, talking to other women about what is happening in my life has been a huge help. We talk about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we enjoy being able to chat about the most recent baby outfits we have bought.
I generally meet with 3 other mothers, once a month, to catch up on the latest happenings. I have been giving my baby boy organic meals from day one but it had never crossed my mind to buying organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most widely grown products in the US and one of the most devastating to the habitat and to farm workers. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has ruined the environment and particularly water bodies. Organic cotton is made without using artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Instead, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.

Benefits of Organic Clothing
Getting organic clothes means you are purchasing produce which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less damage to the environment. No or less use of insecticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and waterways, less diseases for farmers, and fewer health risks for children by moderating their contact with toxic chemicals.
Many wholesalers of baby clothes also make a range of organic items or you can find designers completely devoted to organic baby clothing. Thankfully, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from infants to older children. Obviously, organic clothing for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.
I do not think that I am only ever going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am absolutely going try to whenever possible.
