Long before I had my baby, I never believed I would join a mothers group. However, now that I have become a mum, talking to other women about what is taking place in my life has been a huge help. We talk about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we love to chat about the latest baby outfits we have bought.

I generally meet with 4 other parents, once a fortnight, to find out the latest new. We often meet at McCormick & Schmicks Seafood Restaurants (which is in MCLEAN, VA) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last week was really exciting seeing we discussed organic baby clothing. I have been feeding my baby girl organic meals from day one but I had not considered purchasing organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown products in America and one of the most harmful to the habitat and to farm employees. The run off from these farms has damaged ecosystems and in particular water bodies. Organic cotton is made without the use of artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Rather, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Purchasing organic produce means you are buying products which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less pollution of our habitat. No or a reduction in the use of pesticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our land and lakes, reduced health problems for farmers, and fewer health risks for our children by lessening their contact with dangerous chemicals.

Several retailers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic items or you can find retailers entirely devoted to organic baby clothes. Either way, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are catered for, from babies to older children. Naturally, organic clothes for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.

I am not saying that I am only going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is an amazing alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am absolutely going try to whenever I can.
