Long before I had my baby, I never really imagined I would join a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am finally a mother, talking to other women about what is going on in my life has been a huge help. We discuss how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we enjoy being able to talk about the most recent baby fashions we have bought.

I usually get together with 3 other mothers, once a fortnight, to hear about the latest gossip. We often meet at Two Brothers Pizza (which is in LACONA, NY) as that is pretty central for all of us. Last time was really interesting seeing we chatted about organic baby clothes. I have been giving my baby boy organic meals from day one but I had not considered buying organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most broadly grown crops in the world and one of the most harmful to the environment and to farm employees. The run off from cotton farms has damaged ecosystems and particularly water ways. Organic produce is produced without the use of artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Rather, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.

Benefits of Choosing Organic Products

Purchasing organic produce means you are buying produce which have been produced in an eco friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less damage to our habitat. No or less use of insecticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and lakes, less health problems for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by reducing their contact with toxic chemicals.

Many producers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic items or you can find shops entirely dedicated to organic baby clothing. Thankfully, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are provided for, from babies to adolescents. Obviously, organic fashion for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my man.

I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to buy organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am absolutely going try to whenever possible.
