Long before I had my children, I never really believed I would belong to a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I have become a new mother, being able to talk to other parents about what is taking place in my life has been a huge help. We chat about how we bring up our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we enjoy being able to talk about the latest baby fashions we have purchased.

I generally go out with 2 other mothers, once a fortnight, to catch up on the latest gossip. We often meet at Mikes Pizza & Grill (which is in KOKOMO, IN) as that is pretty central for all of us. Last week was particularly exciting because we chatted about organic baby clothing. I have been giving my baby organic produce from the start but it had never crossed my mind to getting organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most popular products in America and one of the most devastating to the environment and to farmers. The run off from these farms has ruined habitats and particularly water bodies. Organic products are produced without the use of artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Alternatively, organic farming depends upon things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control techniques.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Buying organic products means you are buying products which have been produced in an eco friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less contamination of the environment. No or a reduction in the use of pesticides and fertilizers means less pollution of our land and rivers, fewer diseases for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our children by reducing their contact with dangerous chemicals.

Many makers of baby clothes also make a range of organic clothes or you can find designers solely committed to organic baby fashion. Either way, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are catered for, from infants to older children. Obviously, organic clothing for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I do not think that I am just going to get organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is a fantastic alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am most definitely going try to whenever possible.
