Before I had my children, I never really thought I would be part of a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am a new mother, talking to other mothers about what is going on in my life has benefited me immensely. We discuss how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we love to talk about the latest baby fashions we have purchased.

I more often than not go out with 2 other parents, once a week, to catch up on the latest happenings. We often meet at Wyndham Hamilton Hotel (which is in ITASCA, IL) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last week was particularly interesting because we discussed baby clothes. I have been giving my baby boy organic produce from day one but I had never thought about purchasing organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown crops in the US and one of the most devastating to the habitat and to farm workers. The run off from cotton farms has destroyed the environment and particularly water ways. Organic produce is produced without the need for artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Rather, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.

Benefits of Choosing Organic Products

Buying organic produce means you are purchasing clothes which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less contamination of our habitat. No or a reduction in the use of pesticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our farms and lakes, reduced cancers for farm employees, and fewer health risks for children by reducing their contact with toxic chemicals.

Many wholesalers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic clothes or you can find retailers solely dedicated to organic baby fashion. Either way, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are catered for, from infants to adolescents. Obviously, organic fashion for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my man.

I am not saying that I am only going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is an amazing alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am without a doubt going try to whenever possible.
