Before I had my baby, I never really imagined I would be part of a mothers group. However, now that I am a mum, being able to talk to other women about what is going on in my life has been a huge help. We talk about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we love to chat about the latest baby fashions we have picked up.

I generally go out with 3 other parents, once a month, to find out the latest happenings. We generally meet at Ten-O-One Club (which is in GREEN BAY, WI) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last week was really interesting as we chatted about organic baby clothing. I have been providing my baby girl organic food from the start but it had never crossed my mind to buying organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown products in the US and one of the most ruinous to the environment and to farmers. The run off from these farms has damaged the environment and especially water bodies. Organic products are made without the need for artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Instead, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Clothing

Getting organic clothing means you are buying products which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less contamination of the environment. No or reduced use of pesticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and rivers, less health problems for farmers, and fewer health risks for children by lessening their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.

Several producers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic clothes or you can find retailers completely devoted to organic baby clothes. Thankfully, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are provided for, from infants to adolescents. Naturally, organic clothes for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I would not go as far to say that I am only going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is a great alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am absolutely going try to whenever possible.
