Before I had my children, I never really imagined I would join a mothers group. However, now that I have become a mum, talking to other women about what is going on in my life has been a huge help. We chat about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we love to chat about the most recent baby clothes we have purchased.
I generally go out with 4 other parents, once a month, to find out the latest happenings. We often meet at Lunch Ala Cart (which is in FORT MYERS, FL) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last time was more eye opening as we discussed baby clothes. I have been feeding my baby boy organic produce from the start but it had never crossed my mind to buying organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most widely grown plants in the US and one of the most harmful to the habitat and to farmers. The run off from these farms has destroyed ecosystems and particularly water ways. Organic products are produced without using artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Alternatively, organic farming depends upon things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.

Benefits of Organic Clothing
Getting organic products means you are getting clothes which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less contamination of soils and waterways. No or a reduction in the use of insecticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and lakes, less cancers for farmers, and fewer health risks for our children by moderating their contact with toxic chemicals.
Quite a few producers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothes or you can find companies completely devoted to organic baby fashion. Thankfully, there are a lot of brands to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from toddlers to older children. Obviously, organic fashion for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.
I am not saying that I am only going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is an amazing alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am definitely going try to whenever possible.
