Long before I had my first child, I never imagined I would belong to a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am a mother, talking to other mothers about what is happening in my life has really helped me. We chat about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we love to chat about the newest baby fashions we have purchased.
I usually go out with 2 other women, once a week, to hear about the latest happenings. We generally meet at Laurey's Pizza (which is in CLINTON, NY) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last week was particularly interesting as we discussed organic baby clothing. I have been feeding my baby girl organic produce from the start but I had never thought about getting organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most broadly grown plants in America and one of the most devastating to the habitat and to farm employees. The run off from these farms has damaged the environment and in particular water supplies. Organic cotton is grown without using artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Instead, organic farming depends upon things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control methods.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing
Purchasing organic clothing means you are buying produce which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less damage to soils and waterways. No or reduced use of pesticides and fertilizers means less pollution of our land and rivers, reduced health problems for farmers, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by lessening their contact with dangerous chemicals.
A number of wholesalers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic items or you can find stores completely committed to organic baby clothes. Thankfully, there are a lot of brands to choose from and all ages are provided for, from babies to adolescents. Of course, organic fashion for men and women is also accessible and I am looking into that for myself and my man.
I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to buy organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is a fantastic alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am most definitely going try to whenever I can.
