Organic Baby Clothing CHAPEL HILL

Filed Under (Organic Baby Clothes) by Kaye on 24-07-2008

Long before I had my baby, I had not thought I would join a mothers group. However, now that I have become a mother, chatting to other women about what is going on in my life has benefited me immensely. We discuss how we bring up our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we like to chat about the most recent baby outfits we have bought.

I usually get together with 2 other parents, once a week, to catch up on the latest new. We generally meet at Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen (which is in CHAPEL HILL, NC) as that is quite central for all of us. Last week was particularly eye opening because we discussed organic baby clothing. I have been providing my baby boy organic meals from day one but it had never crossed my mind to getting organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most broadly grown products in the world and one of the most harmful to the habitat and to farmers. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has damaged habitats and in particular water supplies. Organic cotton is produced without using artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Rather, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using organic insect control techniques.

You can buy organic baby clothes online from a number of stores. Sckoon has some gorgeous organic baby clothing.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Buying organic produce means you are getting clothes which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less damage to our habitat. No or a reduction in the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our farms and waterways, fewer health problems for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our children by moderating their contact with toxic chemicals.

Several makers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic clothes or you can find retailers entirely dedicated to organic baby fashion. Either way, there are a lot of brands to choose from and all ages are catered for, from infants to teenagers. Obviously, organic fashion for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my man.

I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is a fantastic alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am definitely going try to whenever it is available.
