Long before I had my baby, I never really thought I would belong to a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am a mother, being able to talk to other parents about what is going on in my life has benefited me immensely. We discuss how we bring up our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we like to talk about the most recent baby fashions we have bought.

I more often than not go out with 3 other mothers, once a fortnight, to catch up on the latest new. We generally meet at Rocky's New York Pizza (which is in CASCADE, MD) as that is quite central for all of us. Last week was really interesting because we talked about baby clothes. I have been giving my baby boy organic food from day one but I had never thought about getting organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown products in the US and one of the most harmful to the ecosystem and to farm employees. The run off from cotton farms has ruined ecosystems and in particular water supplies. Organic produce is grown without the need for artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Benefits of Organic Clothing

Purchasing organic products means you are purchasing products which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less contamination of the environment. No or less use of pesticides and fertilizers means less pollution of our farms and lakes, reduced diseases for farmers, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by reducing their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.

A number of producers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothing or you can find retailers completely dedicated to organic baby clothes. Either way, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are provided for, from toddlers to adolescents. Naturally, organic clothing for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my man.

I would not go as far to say that I am just going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is a fantastic alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am definitely going try to whenever it is available.
