Back before I had my children, I never really believed I would be part of a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am a new mother, being able to talk to other parents about what is taking place in my life has benefited me immensely. We chat about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we enjoy being able to chat about the latest baby outfits we have purchased.

I generally go out with 2 other parents, once a month, to catch up on the latest happenings. We generally meet at Waterwheel Restaurant (which is in CARSON CITY, NV) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last time was particularly interesting because we talked about organic baby clothes. I have been feeding my baby girl organic food from day one but it had never crossed my mind to purchasing organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown plants in the world and one of the most devastating to the ecosystem and to farm employees. The run off from cotton farms has damaged the environment and especially water ways. Organic cotton is produced without using artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Rather, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic insect control techniques.

Benefits of Organic Clothing

Buying organic products means you are purchasing clothes which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less damage to our habitat. No or a reduction in the use of herbicides and fertilisers means less pollution of our farms and lakes, fewer cancers for farm employees, and fewer health risks for children by reducing their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.

Many producers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic items or you can find shops completely devoted to organic baby fashion. Either way, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are provided for, from toddlers to adolescents. Naturally, organic clothing for men and women is also accessible and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.

I do not think that I am only going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am without a doubt going try to whenever possible.
