Organic Baby Clothes SEATTLE

Filed Under (Organic Baby Clothes) by Kaye on 23-03-2008

Before I had my children, I never thought I would belong to a mothers group. However, now that I am a mother, talking to other women about what is happening in my life has benefited me immensely. We talk about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we love to talk about the most recent baby clothes we have bought.

I generally go out with 3 other women, once a fortnight, to catch up on the latest gossip. We usually meet at Dish-Urban Market (which is in SEATTLE, WA) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last month was particularly interesting as we talked about baby clothes. I have been feeding my baby organic meals from the beginning but I had never thought about getting organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most broadly grown plants in the world and one of the most devastating to the environment and to farm workers. The run off from these farms has damaged habitats and in particular water ways. Organic cotton is made without using artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Alternatively, organic farming depends upon things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Purchasing organic clothing means you are getting clothes which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less contamination of soils and waterways. No or a reduction in the use of herbicides and fertilizers means less pollution of our soils and rivers, reduced diseases for farmers, and fewer health risks for children by lessening their contact with dangerous chemicals.

Many retailers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic items or you can find wholesalers completely devoted to organic baby fashion. Anyway, there are a lot of brands to choose from and all ages are provided for, from toddlers to older children. Naturally, organic clothing for men and women is also accessible and I am looking into that for myself and my man.

I do not think that I am only ever going to buy organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am definitely going try to whenever I can.
