Back before I had my baby, I never really thought I would belong to a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am finally a mum, chatting to other parents about what is happening in my life has really helped me. We chat about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we like to chat about the most recent baby fashions we have picked up.

I usually meet with 3 other parents, once a week, to hear about the latest gossip. We generally meet at J CS Bar & Grill (which is in SALINA, KS) as that is quite central for all of us. Last week was more exciting as we chatted about organic baby clothing. I have been providing my baby boy organic produce from day one but I had never thought about getting organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most popular products in the US and one of the most ruinous to the habitat and to farm employees. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has destroyed the environment and particularly water ways. Organic cotton is produced without the use of artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Alternatively, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Purchasing organic clothes means you are purchasing produce which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less pollution of soils and waterways. No or reduced use of insecticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our land and lakes, fewer cancers for farm employees, and fewer health risks for children by reducing their contact with toxic chemicals.

Quite a few makers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothing or you can find stores entirely devoted to organic baby clothes. Anyway, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from toddlers to teenagers. Naturally, organic clothing for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.

I am not saying that I am only ever going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is an amazing alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am without a doubt going try to whenever possible.
