Back before I had my first child, I never really imagined I would belong to a mothers group. However, now that I am a new mother, talking to other mothers about what is going on in my life has really helped me. We discuss how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we enjoy being able to discuss the newest baby fashions we have bought.

I more often than not go out with 4 other parents, once a month, to find out the latest gossip. We generally meet at West Peoria Bar and Grill (which is in PEORIA, IL) as that is quite central for all of us. Last month was really exciting as we talked about organic baby clothing. I have been providing my baby organic produce from the beginning but I had never thought about getting organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown products in the US and one of the most devastating to the ecosystem and to farm workers. The run off from cotton farms has destroyed habitats and in particular water supplies. Organic cotton is made without the need for artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Rather, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.

Benefits of Choosing Organic Products

Buying organic produce means you are getting products which have been produced in an eco friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less pollution of the environment. No or reduced use of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our land and lakes, reduced diseases for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by lessening their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.

Several producers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic items or you can find companies solely devoted to organic baby fashion. Either way, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are provided for, from toddlers to teenagers. Of course, organic clothes for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am without a doubt going try to whenever possible.
