Before I had my baby, I had not imagined I would belong to a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I have become a mother, talking to other mothers about what is taking place in my life has been a huge help. We talk about how we bring up our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we like to chat about the newest baby fashions we have bought.

I generally meet with 2 other women, once a week, to catch up on the latest new. We generally meet at Webster's Lowcountry Grill & Tavern (which is in PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC) as that is pretty central for all of us. Last week was more eye opening as we chatted about organic baby clothes. I have been giving my baby boy organic meals from the start but I had not considered purchasing organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most popular crops in the US and one of the most ruinous to the environment and to farm employees. The run off from cotton farms has ruined habitats and particularly water bodies. Organic produce is produced without the use of artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Alternatively, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic insect control techniques.

Benefits of Organic Clothing

Getting organic produce means you are getting produce which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less pollution of soils and waterways. No or less use of insecticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and waterways, fewer diseases for farm workers, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by moderating their contact with toxic chemicals.

Many producers of baby clothes also make a range of organic clothing or you can find shops completely devoted to organic baby fashion. Either way, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from babies to teenagers. Obviously, organic clothes for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I do not think that I am just going to buy organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am most definitely going try to whenever possible.
