Organic Baby Clothes OLYMPIA
Filed Under (Organic Baby Clothes) by Kaye on 20-03-2008
Back before I had my baby, I never really thought I would join a mothers group. Be that as it may, now that I have become a mother, talking to other parents about what is going on in my life has benefited me immensely. We discuss how we bring up our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we love to talk about the most recent baby outfits we have purchased.
I generally get together with 4 other mothers, once a week, to hear about the latest new. We usually meet at Trinacria (which is in OLYMPIA, WA) as that is quite central for all of us. Last week was particularly exciting because we discussed organic baby clothes. I have been giving my baby boy organic food from day one but I had not considered getting organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most broadly grown crops in the US and one of the most harmful to the ecosystem and to farmers. The run off from cotton farms has damaged the environment and especially water bodies. Organic cotton is made without the need for artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Alternatively, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic pest control practices.
Benefits of Organic Clothing
Buying organic clothes means you are buying produce which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less contamination of the environment. No or less use of pesticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and lakes, fewer health problems for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by lessening their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.
Many retailers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic clothing or you can find wholesalers entirely dedicated to organic baby clothing. Anyway, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are catered for, from toddlers to older children. Obviously, organic clothing for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my man.
I would not go as far to say that I am only going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is a good alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am definitely going try to whenever I can.
