Back before I had my children, I never thought I would be part of a mothers group. Be that as it may, now that I am finally a mother, chatting to other women about what is going on in my life has been a huge help. We chat about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we enjoy being able to chat about the latest baby outfits we have purchased.

I usually go out with 4 other women, once a month, to catch up on the latest gossip. We often meet at Miguel's Baja Grill (which is in MOAB, UT) as that is quite central for all of us. Last week was particularly interesting as we talked about baby clothes. I have been giving my baby organic produce from the beginning but it had never crossed my mind to getting organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most broadly grown crops in the world and one of the most devastating to the habitat and to farm workers. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has damaged ecosystems and in particular water supplies. Organic produce is produced without the use of artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Instead, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using organic pest control techniques.

Benefits of Organic Clothing

Getting organic produce means you are getting produce which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less pollution of our habitat. No or less use of herbicides and fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and lakes, reduced diseases for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our children by moderating their contact with toxic chemicals.

Quite a few wholesalers of baby clothes also make a range of organic clothes or you can find designers solely dedicated to organic baby clothing. Either way, there are a lot of brands to choose from and all ages are provided for, from babies to teenagers. Naturally, organic clothing for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to get organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am absolutely going try to whenever it is available.
