Before I had my first child, I had not imagined I would join a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am a new mother, talking to other parents about what is going on in my life has benefited me immensely. We chat about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we like to talk about the most recent baby fashions we have purchased.

I usually go out with 4 other mothers, once a month, to catch up on the latest happenings. We generally meet at Subway Sandwiches & Salads - West (which is in INDIANAPOLIS, IN) as that is quite central for all of us. Last time was really interesting because we talked about organic baby clothes. I have been providing my baby girl organic meals from day one but I had not considered buying organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most broadly grown crops in the US and one of the most harmful to the habitat and to farmers. The run off from cotton farms has damaged habitats and especially water bodies. Organic products are grown without the use of artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Rather, organic farming depends upon things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Clothing

Getting organic clothes means you are getting clothes which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less damage to soils and waterways. No or less use of herbicides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and waterways, fewer health problems for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our children by moderating their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.

A number of makers of baby clothes also make a range of organic items or you can find shops entirely devoted to organic baby clothes. Thankfully, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from infants to adolescents. Of course, organic clothing for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.

I do not think that I am only going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am most definitely going try to whenever possible.
