Back before I had my baby, I never thought I would join a mothers group. However, now that I am finally a mother, chatting to other parents about what is taking place in my life has really helped me. We discuss how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we enjoy being able to chat about the newest baby clothes we have purchased.

I usually go out with 2 other parents, once a month, to catch up on the latest gossip. We usually meet at Vintage Country Store & Restaurant (which is in GONZALES, LA) as that is quite central for all of us. Last week was really exciting because we discussed organic baby clothes. I have been giving my baby girl organic food from the start but I had not considered buying organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most popular crops in the world and one of the most harmful to the habitat and to farmers. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has damaged the environment and especially water supplies. Organic produce is grown without using artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Alternatively, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Getting organic products means you are getting products which have been produced in an eco friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less damage to our habitat. No or less use of herbicides and fertilizers means less pollution of our soils and rivers, fewer health problems for farmers, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by moderating their contact with toxic chemicals.

Many makers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothing or you can find shops completely devoted to organic baby fashion. Either way, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are catered for, from toddlers to older children. Obviously, organic clothing for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I would not go as far to say that I am only going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is a great alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am most definitely going try to whenever I can.
