Organic Baby Clothes EAGLE RIVER
Filed Under (Organic Baby Clothes) by Kaye on 30-04-2008
Long before I had my baby, I never really thought I would join a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I have become a mother, chatting to other mothers about what is taking place in my life has really helped me. We discuss how we bring up our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we like to talk about the most recent baby clothes we have bought.
I generally get together with 4 other parents, once a week, to hear about the latest happenings. We usually meet at Szechuan Restaurant (which is in EAGLE RIVER, AK) as that is quite central for all of us. Last week was really exciting seeing we chatted about baby clothes. I have been giving my baby girl organic food from the beginning but I had not considered purchasing organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most widely grown plants in the US and one of the most harmful to the ecosystem and to farmers. The run off from cotton farms has destroyed habitats and especially water bodies. Organic cotton is grown without using artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Alternatively, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control techniques.
Benefits of Organic Clothing
Buying organic products means you are buying products which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less pollution of our habitat. No or a reduction in the use of herbicides and fertilizers means less pollution of our soils and rivers, fewer cancers for farmers, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by reducing their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.
Many producers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothes or you can find retailers solely committed to organic baby clothes. Thankfully, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are catered for, from toddlers to adolescents. Obviously, organic clothes for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.
I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is a good alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am without a doubt going try to whenever I can.
