Long before I had my first child, I never believed I would belong to a mothers group. However, now that I am a mother, talking to other parents about what is taking place in my life has been a huge help. We talk about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we enjoy being able to chat about the most recent baby clothes we have picked up.

I generally get together with 2 other parents, once a fortnight, to hear about the latest happenings. We usually meet at China Palace (which is in DEMOPOLIS, AL) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last month was particularly eye opening as we discussed baby clothes. I have been giving my baby organic meals from the beginning but it had never crossed my mind to buying organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown crops in America and one of the most ruinous to the environment and to farmers. The run off from cotton farms has destroyed the environment and particularly water supplies. Organic cotton is grown without using artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Instead, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using organic pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Getting organic clothes means you are getting clothes which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less damage to the environment. No or reduced use of herbicides and fertilisers means less pollution of our land and lakes, less health problems for farm workers, and fewer health risks for our children by lessening their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.

A number of producers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic clothing or you can find shops solely committed to organic baby clothes. Thankfully, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are provided for, from babies to teenagers. Of course, organic clothing for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my man.

I do not think that I am only ever going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is an amazing alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am without a doubt going try to whenever I can.
