Long before I had my first child, I never really believed I would belong to a mothers group. However, now that I have become a mother, chatting to other women about what is going on in my life has benefited me immensely. We talk about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we enjoy being able to discuss the newest baby clothes we have picked up.
I generally meet with 3 other women, once a month, to find out the latest gossip. We generally meet at Sushi On the Square (which is in CLEVELAND, OH) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last week was particularly eye opening seeing we talked about organic baby clothes. I have been providing my baby organic meals from the start but I had not considered getting organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most popular products in America and one of the most devastating to the ecosystem and to farm employees. The run off from cotton farms has destroyed ecosystems and especially water bodies. Organic products are made without the use of artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Alternatively, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.

Benefits of Organic Clothing
Purchasing organic products means you are buying clothes which have been produced in an eco friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less damage to our habitat. No or less use of insecticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and lakes, fewer health problems for farm workers, and fewer health risks for children by lessening their contact with toxic chemicals.
Many makers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic clothes or you can find wholesalers completely committed to organic baby fashion. Anyway, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from infants to adolescents. Obviously, organic clothes for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.
I do not think that I am only going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is a good alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am absolutely going try to whenever possible.
