Back before I had my baby, I never believed I would join a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am a mother, talking to other mothers about what is happening in my life has benefited me immensely. We discuss how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we love to discuss the newest baby outfits we have purchased.

I more often than not meet with 2 other women, once a week, to find out the latest new. We often meet at Zocalito Latin Bistro (which is in CARBONDALE, CO) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last week was particularly eye opening seeing we discussed baby clothes. I have been feeding my baby boy organic produce from day one but I had never thought about purchasing organic clothing for her.

Benefits of Organic Clothing

Purchasing organic products means you are buying clothes which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less contamination of soils and waterways. No or reduced use of herbicides and fertilizers means less pollution of our farms and lakes, fewer cancers for farm workers, and fewer health risks for children by moderating their contact with toxic chemicals.

Several retailers of baby clothes also make a range of organic clothes or you can find companies solely devoted to organic baby clothes. Either way, there are a lot of brands to choose from and all ages are provided for, from babies to older children. Obviously, organic fashion for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.

I would not go as far to say that I am only going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am definitely going try to whenever I can.
