Long before I had my baby, I never imagined I would join a mothers group. However, now that I am a new mother, chatting to other parents about what is taking place in my life has been a huge help. We talk about how we bring up our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we love to talk about the most recent baby fashions we have purchased.
I more often than not go out with 2 other women, once a fortnight, to hear about the latest happenings. We often meet at RJS Open Pit (which is in BOWIE, MD) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last time was more eye opening because we chatted about organic baby clothing. I have been feeding my baby boy organic meals from the start but it had never crossed my mind to purchasing organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most widely grown products in America and one of the most devastating to the habitat and to farm workers. The run off from these farms has damaged habitats and in particular water bodies. Organic produce is grown without the use of artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Alternatively, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using organic insect control methods.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing
Buying organic produce means you are getting produce which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less pollution of soils and waterways. No or less use of herbicides and fertilisers means less pollution of our land and rivers, less cancers for farmers, and fewer health risks for children by reducing their contact with dangerous chemicals.
Several retailers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothes or you can find companies solely committed to organic baby fashion. Thankfully, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are provided for, from babies to older children. Of course, organic clothes for men and women is also accessible and I am looking into that for myself and my man.
I am not saying that I am just going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am definitely going try to whenever I can.
