Baby Clothes WILLIAMSBURG
Filed Under (Organic Baby Clothes) by Kaye on 25-03-2008
Back before I had my children, I never really believed I would be part of a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am finally a new mother, talking to other women about what is taking place in my life has really helped me. We talk about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we love to discuss the most recent baby clothes we have bought.
I usually meet with 3 other mothers, once a month, to catch up on the latest gossip. We generally meet at Landmark Restaurant (which is in WILLIAMSBURG, IA) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last time was really interesting seeing we chatted about organic baby clothing. I have been providing my baby girl organic meals from the beginning but it had never crossed my mind to purchasing organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most widely grown plants in the world and one of the most devastating to the environment and to farmers. The run off from cotton farms has damaged ecosystems and particularly water supplies. Organic cotton is made without the use of artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Rather, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.
Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing
Purchasing organic clothes means you are getting products which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less pollution of our habitat. No or a reduction in the use of insecticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our land and lakes, fewer cancers for farmers, and fewer health risks for children by lessening their contact with toxic chemicals.
Several makers of baby clothes also make a range of organic clothing or you can find retailers entirely dedicated to organic baby fashion. Either way, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are catered for, from toddlers to adolescents. Naturally, organic clothing for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.
I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am most definitely going try to whenever it is available.
