Back before I had my children, I never really thought I would join a mothers group. However, now that I am a mum, chatting to other women about what is going on in my life has been a huge help. We chat about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we like to discuss the newest baby outfits we have picked up.

I usually meet with 4 other women, once a fortnight, to find out the latest happenings. We usually meet at S & J Seafood Cafe Oyster Bar (which is in TULSA, OK) as that is quite central for all of us. Last month was more eye opening because we chatted about organic baby clothes. I have been feeding my baby girl organic produce from the beginning but I had not considered purchasing organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most broadly grown products in the world and one of the most devastating to the ecosystem and to farm employees. The run off from these farms has damaged the environment and in particular water supplies. Organic cotton is made without using artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Instead, organic farming depends upon things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Clothing

Buying organic clothes means you are purchasing produce which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less contamination of the environment. No or a reduction in the use of herbicides and fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and waterways, fewer cancers for farm employees, and fewer health risks for children by moderating their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.

A number of makers of baby clothes also make a range of organic clothing or you can find shops completely dedicated to organic baby clothing. Thankfully, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are provided for, from infants to adolescents. Obviously, organic clothes for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I am not saying that I am only going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is a fantastic alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am absolutely going try to whenever I can.
