Back before I had my children, I never really imagined I would join a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am finally a mum, chatting to other mothers about what is taking place in my life has benefited me immensely. We discuss how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we like to discuss the latest baby clothes we have picked up.

I usually get together with 2 other parents, once a month, to find out the latest new. We usually meet at Green Valley Restaurant (which is in TOLEDO, OH) as that is quite central for all of us. Last month was particularly exciting because we chatted about baby clothes. I have been providing my baby girl organic produce from the start but I had not considered buying organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown plants in the US and one of the most harmful to the environment and to farm employees. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has ruined the environment and especially water bodies. Organic products are grown without using artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Instead, organic farming depends upon things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control methods.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Purchasing organic clothing means you are buying products which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less contamination of the environment. No or a reduction in the use of insecticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and lakes, reduced cancers for farm workers, and fewer health risks for children by lessening their contact with toxic chemicals.

A number of producers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic clothing or you can find designers solely devoted to organic baby fashion. Either way, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are provided for, from infants to older children. Naturally, organic fashion for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is an amazing alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am absolutely going try to whenever it is available.
