Long before I had my baby, I never imagined I would be part of a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I have become a mother, talking to other parents about what is happening in my life has benefited me immensely. We talk about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we enjoy being able to chat about the most recent baby clothes we have picked up.
I generally get together with 4 other parents, once a month, to hear about the latest gossip. We generally meet at Oklahoma State University - Student Union Dining S (which is in STILLWATER, OK) as that is pretty central for all of us. Last time was really eye opening seeing we chatted about organic baby clothes. I have been providing my baby girl organic produce from day one but it had never crossed my mind to getting organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most broadly grown crops in the world and one of the most devastating to the ecosystem and to farm employees. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has ruined the environment and in particular water supplies. Organic cotton is grown without using artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Instead, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using organic pest control techniques.

Benefits of Organic Clothing
Purchasing organic clothing means you are purchasing clothes which have been produced in an eco friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less damage to the environment. No or a reduction in the use of insecticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and rivers, reduced diseases for farmers, and fewer health risks for our children by reducing their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.
Several makers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic items or you can find retailers entirely dedicated to organic baby clothes. Thankfully, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are provided for, from babies to older children. Of course, organic clothes for men and women is also accessible and I am looking into that for myself and my man.
I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is a great alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am without a doubt going try to whenever I can.
