Long before I had my children, I had not believed I would be part of a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I have become a mum, chatting to other women about what is happening in my life has benefited me immensely. We chat about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we love to talk about the most recent baby outfits we have picked up.
I usually meet with 4 other parents, once a fortnight, to catch up on the latest happenings. We usually meet at McCormicks Restaurant (which is in SOMERVILLE, NJ) as that is quite central for all of us. Last month was more eye opening as we chatted about organic baby clothes. I have been feeding my baby boy organic food from the beginning but it had never crossed my mind to purchasing organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most popular plants in the US and one of the most devastating to the habitat and to farmers. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has damaged ecosystems and particularly water ways. Organic products are grown without the need for artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Rather, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control methods.

Benefits of Choosing Organic Products
Purchasing organic clothes means you are purchasing produce which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less damage to soils and waterways. No or less use of insecticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and waterways, fewer health problems for farm workers, and fewer health risks for our children by lessening their contact with toxic chemicals.
A number of wholesalers of baby clothes also make a range of organic clothing or you can find retailers entirely committed to organic baby fashion. Either way, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from toddlers to adolescents. Of course, organic clothes for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my man.
I am not saying that I am just going to buy organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is an amazing alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am absolutely going try to whenever possible.
