Long before I had my first child, I had not imagined I would join a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am finally a mother, talking to other women about what is happening in my life has benefited me immensely. We chat about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we enjoy being able to talk about the latest baby outfits we have purchased.

I generally get together with 3 other women, once a week, to catch up on the latest new. We often meet at Seabeck Bay Cafe (which is in SEABECK, WA) as that is pretty central for all of us. I have been giving my baby organic meals from the start but it had never crossed my mind to purchasing organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most broadly grown crops in America and one of the most devastating to the environment and to farmers. The run off from cotton farms has destroyed ecosystems and particularly water bodies. Organic produce is grown without using artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Alternatively, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using organic pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Getting organic produce means you are purchasing products which have been produced in an eco friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less damage to soils and waterways. No or reduced use of insecticides and fertilizers means less pollution of our soils and rivers, less cancers for farmers, and fewer health risks for children by reducing their contact with dangerous chemicals.

Quite a few retailers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothes or you can find designers solely dedicated to organic baby fashion. Thankfully, there are a lot of brands to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from babies to teenagers. Obviously, organic clothing for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.

I would not go as far to say that I am only going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am most definitely going try to whenever it is available.
