Long before I had my baby, I never believed I would be part of a mothers group. Be that as it may, now that I have become a mum, talking to other women about what is going on in my life has been a huge help. We discuss how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we like to chat about the most recent baby clothes we have purchased.
I more often than not go out with 2 other women, once a week, to find out the latest happenings. We generally meet at Cup A Joe Inc (which is in RICHMOND, VA) as that is pretty central for all of us. Last time was particularly interesting as we chatted about organic baby clothing. I have been providing my baby boy organic meals from the beginning but it had never crossed my mind to getting organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most broadly grown crops in the world and one of the most devastating to the ecosystem and to farmers. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has destroyed ecosystems and especially water ways. Organic produce is produced without using artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Alternatively, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing
Buying organic clothing means you are buying clothes which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less pollution of the environment. No or reduced use of insecticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and rivers, less diseases for farmers, and fewer health risks for children by reducing their contact with toxic chemicals.
Quite a few makers of baby clothes also make a range of organic clothes or you can find shops solely dedicated to organic baby clothing. Thankfully, there are a lot of brands to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from babies to teenagers. Naturally, organic fashion for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.
I do not think that I am only going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is an amazing alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am most definitely going try to whenever it is available.
