Baby Clothes PORTSMOUTH

Filed Under (Organic Baby Clothes) by Kaye on 02-07-2008

Before I had my children, I had not believed I would belong to a mothers group. However, now that I have become a mother, chatting to other women about what is going on in my life has really helped me. We discuss how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we like to discuss the newest baby fashions we have picked up.

I more often than not meet with 3 other mothers, once a week, to catch up on the latest gossip. We usually meet at Cafe Mediterraneo (which is in PORTSMOUTH, NH) as that is quite central for all of us. Last week was really eye opening seeing we discussed baby clothes. I have been giving my baby organic food from the start but it had never crossed my mind to buying organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown crops in the US and one of the most ruinous to the habitat and to farm employees. The run off from cotton farms has damaged the environment and particularly water ways. Organic produce is produced without using artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Instead, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic pest control methods.

You can get soft organic cotton baby outfits online from a number of shops. Sckoon is my favourite for organic baby clothing.

Benefits of Organic Clothing

Purchasing organic produce means you are purchasing products which have been produced in an eco friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less damage to our habitat. No or reduced use of herbicides and fertilizers means less pollution of our land and waterways, fewer diseases for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our children by moderating their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.

Several wholesalers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic items or you can find stores completely dedicated to organic baby clothes. Anyway, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are catered for, from babies to older children. Naturally, organic fashion for men and women is also accessible and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I am not saying that I am only going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am without a doubt going try to whenever it is available.

  1. Why bamboo? With so much talk about bamboo, have you wondered what the fuss is all about. Read on for just a few reasons bamboo is revolutioninzing the textile industry.

Bamboo is perfect next to babies delicate skin because it is naturally hypoallergenic, and anti-bacterial, preventing odor, allergies and skin irritations. In addition, it is thermal regulating, which is important since babies have a hard time regulating body temperature when first born. Bamboo also wicks away moisture and has double the absorbency of cotton.

Because Bamboo is a grass that grows like a weed, it is the fastest growing plant on the planet today. It can grow up to three feet in one day! This means Bamboo is the alternative to wide spread clear cutting of forests, and the most sustainable textile material available in the market. It doesn’t need help from pesticides or insecticides and usually grows on rain water alone.

And as far as how it looks…..Bamboo looks like expensive Pima or Egyptian Cotton and drapes like silk. It has less shrinkage than cotton and does not pill. It has been described as feeling like pure cashmere!
