Baby Clothes PORTLAND

Filed Under (Organic Baby Clothes) by Kaye on 12-07-2008

Before I had my baby, I never imagined I would belong to a mothers group. However, now that I am a mum, talking to other women about what is going on in my life has benefited me immensely. We discuss how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we love to chat about the newest baby fashions we have bought.

I more often than not go out with 2 other parents, once a fortnight, to find out the latest happenings. We usually meet at Papa Murphy's Take 'n' Bake Pizza - Southwest (which is in PORTLAND, OR) as that is pretty central for all of us. Last week was more eye opening as we chatted about organic baby clothes. I have been giving my baby boy organic food from the start but it had never crossed my mind to purchasing organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most broadly grown crops in the US and one of the most ruinous to the environment and to farm employees. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has destroyed the environment and particularly water supplies. Organic cotton is made without the need for artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Alternatively, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control practices.

You can buy organic cotton baby apparel online from a number of stores. Sckoon has some of the cutest organic baby clothes.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Purchasing organic clothing means you are getting produce which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less contamination of the environment. No or reduced use of insecticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our land and rivers, less health problems for farm employees, and fewer health risks for children by moderating their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.

Quite a few makers of baby clothes also make a range of organic clothing or you can find designers completely dedicated to organic baby clothing. Anyway, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are catered for, from infants to adolescents. Of course, organic clothes for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my man.

I do not think that I am just going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is a fantastic alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am without a doubt going try to whenever I can.
