Before I had my baby, I had not believed I would join a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I have become a mum, chatting to other women about what is going on in my life has benefited me immensely. We discuss how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we like to discuss the newest baby fashions we have picked up.

I more often than not get together with 3 other women, once a fortnight, to catch up on the latest new. We generally meet at Koffee KUP (which is in NORMAL, IL) as that is quite central for all of us. Last time was really interesting as we talked about organic baby clothing. I have been feeding my baby girl organic food from the start but I had never thought about buying organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most broadly grown plants in the US and one of the most ruinous to the ecosystem and to farmers. The run off from cotton farms has destroyed habitats and particularly water bodies. Organic produce is produced without the need for artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Instead, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control techniques.

Benefits of Organic Clothing

Purchasing organic products means you are getting clothes which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less damage to soils and waterways. No or less use of pesticides and fertilizers means less pollution of our farms and lakes, less diseases for farm workers, and fewer health risks for our children by lessening their contact with dangerous chemicals.

Quite a few retailers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic clothing or you can find stores solely devoted to organic baby clothing. Thankfully, there are a lot of brands to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from toddlers to adolescents. Obviously, organic fashion for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my man.

I do not think that I am only ever going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is an amazing alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am most definitely going try to whenever possible.
