Back before I had my baby, I had not believed I would belong to a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am a new mother, being able to talk to other parents about what is happening in my life has been a huge help. We chat about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we enjoy being able to talk about the newest baby outfits we have bought.
I generally get together with 2 other women, once a month, to hear about the latest gossip. We usually meet at Subway Subs (which is in NEW HAVEN, CT) as that is quite central for all of us. Last time was really exciting as we talked about organic baby clothing. I have been giving my baby girl organic meals from the beginning but it had never crossed my mind to getting organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most widely grown crops in the US and one of the most harmful to the habitat and to farm employees. The run off from cotton farms has damaged ecosystems and in particular water ways. Organic products are made without the need for artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing
Purchasing organic clothes means you are buying products which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less damage to our habitat. No or less use of herbicides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our land and lakes, reduced diseases for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our children by lessening their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.
A number of producers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic items or you can find retailers entirely dedicated to organic baby clothes. Anyway, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from babies to adolescents. Naturally, organic clothing for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.
I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am most definitely going try to whenever it is available.
