Before I had my baby, I never really imagined I would be part of a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I am a new mother, talking to other mothers about what is happening in my life has been a huge help. We discuss how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we like to discuss the latest baby outfits we have bought.

I generally get together with 4 other mothers, once a month, to catch up on the latest new. We generally meet at Landing (which is in MOHAWK, MI) as that is quite central for all of us. I have been giving my baby girl organic produce from day one but I had not considered getting organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most broadly grown products in the world and one of the most ruinous to the environment and to farm employees. The run off from cotton farms has destroyed ecosystems and particularly water ways. Organic produce is grown without using artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Rather, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic insect control methods.

Benefits of Choosing Organic Products

Getting organic clothes means you are buying clothes which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less contamination of soils and waterways. No or a reduction in the use of pesticides and fertilizers means less pollution of our farms and rivers, less cancers for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our children by moderating their contact with toxic chemicals.

Many producers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic clothes or you can find shops entirely committed to organic baby clothes. Anyway, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are provided for, from toddlers to adolescents. Obviously, organic clothes for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I do not think that I am just going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is a good alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am definitely going try to whenever it is available.
