Back before I had my baby, I never really believed I would be part of a mothers group. Anyhow, now that I have become a mum, chatting to other mothers about what is taking place in my life has been a huge help. We chat about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we love to discuss the most recent baby fashions we have purchased.

I generally go out with 3 other mothers, once a week, to catch up on the latest gossip. We often meet at Chef King (which is in ELLSWORTH, ME) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last month was more eye opening as we talked about organic baby clothes. I have been feeding my baby organic produce from the start but I had not considered buying organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown products in the US and one of the most harmful to the habitat and to farm workers. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has damaged the environment and particularly water ways. Organic products are grown without using artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Rather, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Purchasing organic clothing means you are buying clothes which have been produced in an eco-friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less damage to the environment. No or a reduction in the use of herbicides and fertilizers means less pollution of our land and lakes, less cancers for farm employees, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by reducing their contact with dangerous chemicals.

A number of wholesalers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothing or you can find shops entirely dedicated to organic baby fashion. Anyway, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are provided for, from babies to adolescents. Obviously, organic fashion for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I do not think that I am only ever going to buy organic cotton or bamboo cotton clothing (which is a fantastic alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am most definitely going try to whenever I can.
