Before I had my children, I had not believed I would belong to a mothers group. However, now that I have become a mum, talking to other parents about what is happening in my life has been a huge help. We discuss how we bring up our children, what to do and not to do, we share meal plans, and we like to chat about the newest baby fashions we have purchased.
I usually go out with 4 other parents, once a month, to find out the latest gossip. We usually meet at Taste of Africa (which is in DETROIT, MI) as that is pretty central for all of us. Last time was particularly eye opening as we talked about organic baby clothes. I have been feeding my baby girl organic food from the beginning but I had not considered getting organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most popular crops in the world and one of the most devastating to the environment and to farm workers. The run off from cotton farms has ruined ecosystems and in particular water bodies. Organic produce is produced without using artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Instead, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing
Purchasing organic clothes means you are getting produce which have been produced in an eco friendly manner, or at the very least in a way which causes less contamination of soils and waterways. No or less use of herbicides and fertilizers means less pollution of our soils and waterways, fewer cancers for farm workers, and fewer health risks for our children by moderating their contact with toxic chemicals.
Several wholesalers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothes or you can find designers entirely dedicated to organic baby fashion. Anyway, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are catered for, from toddlers to adolescents. Obviously, organic clothes for men and women is also available and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.
I would not go as far to say that I am just going to purchase organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is a fantastic alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my children but I am absolutely going try to whenever I can.
