Before I had my baby, I had not thought I would be part of a mothers group. However, now that I have become a mother, chatting to other mothers about what is going on in my life has been a huge help. We talk about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we love to talk about the most recent baby outfits we have bought.
I generally get together with 2 other mothers, once a fortnight, to catch up on the latest happenings. We generally meet at Animal Crackers of Oregon (which is in CANNON BEACH, OR) as that is quite central for all of us. Last month was really eye opening seeing we discussed organic baby clothing. I have been feeding my baby boy organic food from the start but it had never crossed my mind to buying organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most popular plants in the US and one of the most harmful to the ecosystem and to farm workers. The run off from non-organic cotton farms has destroyed the environment and especially water ways. Organic products are produced without the need for artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Alternatively, organic farming depends upon things like crop rotation, raising the quality of soils naturally, and using organic insect control practices.

Benefits of Organic Clothing
Purchasing organic products means you are getting produce which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less pollution of the environment. No or less use of pesticides and fertilisers means less pollution of our land and waterways, reduced health problems for farmers, and fewer health risks for our children by lessening their contact with dangerous chemicals.
Quite a few producers of baby clothes also sell a range of organic clothing or you can find companies completely dedicated to organic baby clothes. Thankfully, there are a lot of brands to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from toddlers to teenagers. Obviously, organic clothes for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.
I would not go as far to say that I am only ever going to get organic cotton or bamboo clothes (which is a good alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am without a doubt going try to whenever I can.
