Back before I had my baby, I never really thought I would belong to a mothers group. However, now that I have become a mum, talking to other women about what is happening in my life has benefited me immensely. We talk about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we love to talk about the most recent baby fashions we have picked up.
I generally go out with 3 other women, once a fortnight, to catch up on the latest gossip. We often meet at Jamaican Pepper Pot (which is in BEAUFORT, SC) as that is pretty central for all of us. Last time was really eye opening because we talked about organic baby clothing. I have been providing my baby boy organic produce from day one but I had not considered purchasing organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most widely grown plants in America and one of the most ruinous to the environment and to farmers. The run off from cotton farms has damaged habitats and in particular water bodies. Organic produce is produced without the use of artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Instead, organic farming depends on things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using organic pest control methods.

Benefits of Organic Clothing
Getting organic clothes means you are buying clothes which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less contamination of soils and waterways. No or reduced use of insecticides and fertilizers means less pollution of our land and rivers, fewer health problems for farmers, and fewer health risks for our babies and children by lessening their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.
Quite a few retailers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic items or you can find companies completely committed to organic baby clothing. Either way, there are a lot of designs to choose from and all ages are catered for, from babies to adolescents. Obviously, organic clothing for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.
I do not think that I am only going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is an excellent alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am absolutely going try to whenever it is available.
