Before I had my children, I never thought I would be part of a mothers group. However, now that I am a mum, chatting to other parents about what is going on in my life has been a huge help. We chat about how we deal with our children, what to do and not to do, we share baby food recipes, and we enjoy being able to discuss the most recent baby fashions we have picked up.

I generally get together with 2 other women, once a fortnight, to hear about the latest happenings. We usually meet at Nunamiut Corporation - Restaurant (which is in ANAKTUVUK PASS, AK) as that is fairly central for all of us. Last time was more interesting because we chatted about organic baby clothes. I have been providing my baby organic food from the start but it had never crossed my mind to getting organic clothing for her.

Cotton is one of the most widely grown crops in the US and one of the most devastating to the habitat and to farm employees. The run off from cotton farms has damaged habitats and especially water ways. Organic cotton is grown without the need for artificial fertilisers and insecticides. Instead, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, enhancing soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control methods.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing

Purchasing organic produce means you are getting produce which have been produced in an environmentally friendly manner, or at a minimum in a way which causes less contamination of our habitat. No or less use of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and lakes, less health problems for farm workers, and fewer health risks for children by moderating their contact with potentially dangerous chemicals.

Several retailers of baby clothes also produce a range of organic items or you can find shops solely dedicated to organic baby clothing. Anyway, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are taken care of, from toddlers to older children. Naturally, organic clothing for men and women is also obtainable and I am looking into that for myself and my partner.

I would not go as far to say that I am only going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is an amazing alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my baby but I am absolutely going try to whenever possible.
