Before I had my baby, I never really thought I would be part of a mothers group. However, now that I am finally a mother, being able to talk to other women about what is going on in my life has benefited me immensely. We talk about how we raise our children, what to do and not to do, we share recipes, and we love to chat about the latest baby fashions we have purchased.
I generally go out with 3 other parents, once a month, to hear about the latest happenings. We generally meet at Edibles Family Restaurant and Pizzeria (which is in AMBLER, PA) as that is quite central for all of us. Last time was particularly exciting as we talked about organic baby clothes. I have been giving my baby boy organic meals from day one but I had never thought about buying organic clothing for her.
Cotton is one of the most broadly grown crops in the US and one of the most devastating to the environment and to farm employees. The run off from these farms has ruined habitats and especially water supplies. Organic produce is grown without the need for artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Alternatively, organic farming relies on things like crop rotation, improving soils naturally, and using eco friendly pest control practices.

Benefits of Organic Baby Clothing
Getting organic clothing means you are buying products which have been produced in an eco friendly manner, or at least in a way which causes less contamination of soils and waterways. No or reduced use of herbicides and fertilisers means less pollution of our soils and waterways, less cancers for farm employees, and fewer health risks for children by lessening their contact with toxic chemicals.
Several makers of baby clothes also make a range of organic clothing or you can find companies solely devoted to organic baby fashion. Anyway, there are a lot of marks to choose from and all ages are catered for, from babies to adolescents. Of course, organic clothes for men and women is also accessible and I am looking into that for myself and my husband.
I do not think that I am just going to buy organic cotton or bamboo clothing (which is a good alternative to regular or organic cotton) for my child but I am absolutely going try to whenever it is available.
